Fort Fleur d'Épée

18th-century battery (from 1763), converted to a fort in 1792, captured by the British in 1794 and recaptured by Victor Hugues with the support of freed slaves. Since the 1960s the Departmental Council has run it as a public venue for rotating art exhibitions on Creole culture; historic monument since 1979 and part of the UNESCO slavery-memory route network.
